El Barrio Chicano KC
Unable to secure an outdoor space for the long awaited dream of a Chicano Park KC, even with trying for over 6 years, we’re reimagining the project in a powerful new way. El Barrio Chicano KC, Inspired by the legendary Chicano Park in San Diego, this proposal envisions a Mini Chicano Park Kansas City—a space that will come alive with culturally rich murals on small pillars and an interactive mural within the Latinx Education Collaborative (LEC) space.
Our vision is to create a vibrant community hub that honors Chicano/a/e heritage, celebrates Latino/a/e culture, and inspires both youth and community members through the power of art and storytelling. This park will be a place where our community’s voices, history, and creative spirit are uplifted and preserved for generations to come.
If you’re a Chicano/a/e artist who’s been waiting for an opportunity to share your work, whether on public pillars or inside mural spaces, this is your moment. This is a place where we can honor our roots, celebrate our heritage, and showcase the incredible talent within our community.
This isn’t just about art; it’s about giving voice to those who haven’t yet been heard, seen, or celebrated. If you haven’t had the chance to show your work in a large or even a smaller setting, we would be honored to hear from you. Also, be on the lookout for our 2025 Art Mentorship programming that will align with this project for our amazing aspiring artists! From lowrider culture, to custom paint, to tying in our Indigenous Roots and celebrating through art. As well as Barrio+Comunidad will be back to tie in our culture and embrace the story.
We can’t wait to see what we’ll create, side by side, for generations to come.
