Creative Writing

Creative writing is a vital component of the Chicano Center for the Arts' mentorship program because it empowers participants to articulate their personal stories, cultural identities, and creative journeys in a deeply meaningful way.

The organization itself was founded on the belief in the transformative power of creative writing, which served as our initial platform to amplify underrepresented voices and foster cultural expression. For Chicano/a/e and Latino/a/e artists, writing serves as a bridge between their lived experiences and their art, helping them explore themes of heritage, resilience, and community impact.

By integrating creative writing into the mentorship program, we provide young artists with a powerful tool for self-expression, advocacy, and cultural preservation, amplifying their voices and fostering a deeper connection between their work and the broader community.

Creative Writing Mentors Needed

Call for a Creative Writing Mentor!

We’re looking for a passionate Creative Writing Mentor to guide young storytellers in our 6-week workshop, "Telling Our Stories, Creating Our Legacy." This program empowers 17 to 19 year-olds to explore their personal narratives, develop their voice, and publish their work.

As a mentor, you'll provide guidance, feedback, and inspiration as students craft blogs, short stories, and contribute to a collective anthology. If you believe in the power of storytelling and want to help young writers own their voices, we’d love to have you!
